Biripi Country
MASTERPLANNING AND STAGES 1 TO 3
The Mid North Coast Community College’s Yulinbal Senior College is an independent special assistance school that currently operates a secondary program in Taree.
The College’s brief included material durability, spatial flexibility and connection with country between the existing and proposed learning spaces.
Some of the stages our studio has completed in collaboration with the College include:
- Master planning of the campus and identifying areas of campus facility growth and its connections with Biripai country landscape.
- Stage 1 – Refurbishment of existing building for general learning areas, new car parking area, construction of a learning kitchen and refurbishment of cafe.
- Demountable building for general learning classroom.
- Stage 2 – Construction of STEM learning area and amenities building; new entry reception building, new covered walkways between the building area and landscaped seating areas.
- Stage 3 – Construction of Staff common and wellness room (Proposed completion April 2025)
Each stage is designed to connect the students and staff with Biripi Country through material selection; visual and physical connection with the natural environment; creating spaces to be inclusive and sharing cultural way of life.
A central courtyard provides level transition between indoor and outdoor learning spaces with tiered outdoor seating and yarning circle.
Covered walkways provide weather protection between the indoor and outdoor spaces.
