Birpai Country
The design brief was to provide safe off-street vehicle parking area for their young family whilst providing privacy and security for their winter garden. The brief also required a new entry presence to the street for an existing home on a steep sloping block.
The concept and form of the new additions was inspired by the tree canopies of the adjoining rainforest and colours of the surrounding bush and beach environment. Floating roof canopies with variable roof shape provide a new façade to the home and roof area with access to solar electricity.
The new additions provide shade from the western summer sun, a continuation of the residence’s courtyard spaces and introduction of vertical garden at the rear of the carport for a soft, natural outlook to the upper and lower floor bedrooms.
Internal alterations provide a lower floor children’s retreat, space for visitors, office study space and is flexible in design for the family.
Material selection included recycled and renewable materials that can be further recycled at the end of their current use.
